Malaysia - Truly Asia

After going over a long list of holiday destinations, 5 college mates who now live in different parts of the world decided to land in Malaysia. Trust me, Malaysia did not let us down and I will just tell you how and why!

We landed in Kuala Lumpur (KL) and went around the city on the first day. The Petronas twin tower was a stand-out attraction and the view of the city from the 44^th floor which is a connecting pathway for the two towers is exhilarating. One can take the day long “Hop-on” bus ride which takes you around the city stopping by every tourist spot. During sunset, the city looks even more dazzling with all the buildings and streets lit up; the glittering twin towers shining like a jewel to make it a truly breathtaking atmosphere.

We then proceeded to the Battu Caves and Genting Highlands on the next day. Battu Caves is an amazing place to learn the Tamil culture that exists in Malaysia. It houses a cave temple for Lord Murugan. Genting Highlands is famous for its casinos and theme parks. A misty dew hung around dense green forests as we took a cable car ride to reach the summit making it a truly memorable experience.

Vanessa Williams says that one should “save the best for last” and for us it was no different as we landed in Langkawi, an archipelago of islands. This is the “Go-to” place if you are fond of beaches and water sports. The island has lovely beaches, scenic beauty of mountains, mangrove forests, ‘tasty’ sea food and a lot of options for shopping. The cable car ride at Langkawi is an experience in itself. The view from the Aero Bridge connecting the summit of two mountains with the clouds cutting across was just terrific.

Langkawi has a lot of very good beach resorts at an affordable price point and most resorts have their own private beach with water sports. The beaches of Langkawi are a photographer’s delight with the white sand, shallow blue sea going around the mangrove forests. The night life in Langkawi buzzes with each resort hosting a band of musicians on the seaside with food and beverages. It was just a wonderful place to hang out in the night peacefully enjoying the moonlight and sea breeze especially after a day full of travelling and sightseeing.

 

Overall, Malaysia is ‘truly’ Asia!!!
